About Rangers of Shadow Deep

Rangers of Shadow Deep is a cooperative fantasy wargame by Joseph McCullough, published by Osprey Games. Players take on the role of rangers — elite soldiers of a kingdom slowly being consumed by a corrupt, supernatural region known as the Shadow Deep — and their recruited companions.

Unlike most wargames, Rangers of Shadow Deep is fully cooperative: all players work together against enemies controlled by a simple but effective scenario ruleset. Missions have specific objectives beyond simply killing everything — rescue prisoners, gather intelligence, light signal fires — and failure has consequences that carry into future games.

The game scales well from solo play up to four players, making it one of the most flexible wargames in our rotation. If you've ever wanted to play a wargame by yourself or with a friend without needing a full opponent, Rangers of Shadow Deep is a great entry point.

We run Rangers of Shadow Deep as both casual one-off sessions and as linked campaigns where our rangers grow more powerful — and more battered — across multiple missions. The cooperative nature makes it especially welcoming for newer players, since the group works together rather than against each other.
